It could be funny to say, this is my “music clip” since I am singing the background song for this video. It’s an old children song, pretty old – since the war time I think.
The song is about a little child walking in a ripe rice field. She sees a beautiful “golden sea”, the fragrance of the ripe rice is breezing in the wind. She feels everything is moving as if they are all singing along with her. Each grain is like a sweat from a farmer who had worked so hard to grow the rice….
It’s a very beautiful song praising a Vietnamese farmer. So rarely for an adult to cover such a song but I decided to sing it as I love this song so much. Most of my relatives are farmers who are still living in the rural areas. Poor – hard working people. I want to thank them for not only bringing me the rice every day, but also bringing me to this life.
Just had over one hour afternoon at my mother’s hometown in Nam Sach, Hai Duong, Vietnam. I had great chance to film my aunts (my mother’s sisters) working on their fields. It’s the harvesting season for rice, not really a great blooming season but as always: I love so much that smiles which are never lost on their faces!

This is my US roadtrip. What you see is just some random footage we captured along the way. The real trip is whole way more interesting and “bigger” than this clip. You will see the photos in my websites and facebook. I would make a book about it, will see!
Hope you enjoy it!

I came to DC when all the cherries trees had not yet to bloom. They were just like sweet kisses of a good looking guy. This is my very FIRST video that I edited. The background is my voice as well.

Alyson is one of my most talented friends. As I met her over 2 years ago in a bar. She played piano and sang some Xmas songs with other singers in a little Xmas music party. As she started playing and singing. I was amazed with her powerful and beautiful voice, stood out from all other voices. And we made friends afterward.
She is talented – that is too obvious to deny if you meet her once. She writes her own songs too and as I listened to those songs – they are no different with any big hits on the music chart. But she, like me are “starving artists”, haha – we need luck and great people to be discovered!
I decided to make a music clip for her. It was not such an easy job since I had never done a music clip before and no one ever taught me anything about it. But I decided I would do it. For one reason: She is talented and she needs to be supported! I do it as I have learned I have always been helped and supported by others, I must do the same thing to help others too! It is something to thanks life!
I made this video when I was about going back to Vietnam in a few days. It was cold and I did not really have any great ideas in mind. I did not even know where to start. But as the time rushed by, I was telling myself I must do it or else I will be in a great regret coming back to VN.
And we had like two days to do it. As I offered this idea to Alyson, she was so excited about this since she never had a music clip ever before in her life. I chose the song and we had some brief ideas. When I went to sleep, I was thinking in my sleep and finally I decided to do it as soon as possible, with those blurry images I built some last nights.
I told Alyson to have some of her friends to join the video too. And from here I discovered a great actor – seriously a great actor. It is Tanya – Alyson’s roommate. I was amazed with her natural acting talent even she had never done such a similar job like this before. And she was so smart, it was so easy for me to tell her what to do as a director and a cinematographer. I kept encouraging her to send her head shots to some casting agencies. She would be something big!
It took me 5 months to finish this video. Of course it is not as perfect as I wished since I did not have time and great ideas to invest. It was hard for me to do the color degrading and put the ideas together. But I did it finally, and whatever others think, I am proud of it. So proud. I made this video almost A to Z. Except that acting, singing and appearing in the video parts – I am everything of the rest.
I will do lot of videos and films in the future. It is my dream to be a DOP. I would love to hear comments from you, things that would help me to be better!

I first came to NY when I was 12. NYC has trained me a strong personality. It brought me confidence and taught me to know to dream.
I’ll be back, to make those dreams come true. Thank you, NY!
About the video: These are not symbol images of NYC. They are just very small parts of my memories and only since I bought the mark II. There are my favorite moments, my friends, my fun, the street performers, the subway, the tram, the island where I lived….I missed two big favorite places of mine: Chinatown and Brooklyn. Every time I was there, I only came to eat and never brought my camera!
I fell in love with this piece of music watching talented Mathew Brown’s work: Dear Japan. I decided to buy Zack Hemsey’s whole album and was amazed with his music. If you like this video, then it’s not because of me, it’s Zack Hemsey!

Watching those stunning HD videos on youtube and vimeo made me wanted a 5D mark II so bad. Since I am a photographer, it won’t hurt to save money for a new 5D. So I bought the 5D mark II just a few days before this trip to my homeland in early 2010. I was not getting used to the camera, it had been exhausted holding the camera in your hands. That manual focus really bothered me. But then I realized the power of DSLR video: the amazing DOF and vivid color quality, each frame is a perfect picture. 5D mark II has really changed my life ever since.
So this is my first video and I can’t stop making great videos out of it. So I will continue to show you my work. They are getting better everyday!
Goodbye, New York! Thank you, New York! from Hà Kin on Vimeo.
The song is called: “Mom’s diary”, sung by Thủy Bông, one of my most talented friends. She has such a sweet and beautiful voice. Whenever she covers a song, I would press a rewind button even I would never listen to that song sung by a professional singer. She’s not a singer, just a mom who loves to sing for her child and her family, friends.
The video is made up by both videos and photos. The photos come from my little photo client’s collection, some of them are my brother and sister. The videos are mainly Thuy Bong and her daughter, some from my clients and some from my beautiful sister too.
All the transitions and movement of each photo in the video are manually made.
This is not a music clip. Hope you’d like it!
“Áo dài” : A traditional dress of Vietnamese women. It’s beautiful, unique. It is the most beautiful outfit for women in this world!
I made this video all by myself, as a tribute to my own love: “Áo dài”, and to all Vietnamese women who I love!

The Great Nowhere – Alyson Faith from Hà Kin on Vimeo.
I had two trips to Europe. One is in summer 2010 and the latest one is in July 2011. They were not just trips – they were adventures. I traveled mostly by myself and I could write a book of what I had experienced through. Don’t think I travel because I just want to take photos of beautiful wonders – I go because I want to meet new people, learn from them and discover different cultures! Thus, I can feel I am less, then less stupid!
PS: I met amazing people and I witnessed miracles!
